Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Success is dependent on effort”
-     Sophocles, Greek dramatist
This quote means many different positive things. When you want to succeed you can’t just succeed and not put in hard work you have to work hard for what you want but in the end it will all be worth it. If you want something you can’t just give up you have to be strong and keep trying and never give up so as it says in the statement that success depends on whether or not you put some effort into it. So success does mean that if you want to reach your goals in life and be happy you have to work hard no matter what it won’t be easy but it is good to be successful and to know that you did reach your goals by working hard and being a great person by not choosing the wrong.

How to Take on College Studying Part 2

How to Take on College Studying
Part 2
Choose Where You Study
Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.
·        The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space--- usually dorm room, your apartment or the library.
·        For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.
·        When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper you are probably better off in a social environment
Improve Your Study Habits
Here are some simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:
·        Have a routine for where and when you study.
·        Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.
·        Do things that are harder or require more intense thought at your most productive time of the day.
·        Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.
·        Get to know students whom you respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.
·       Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

Jenna and Deb's Good Sprotsmanship

Jenna and Deb,
Summary: In this story it talks about two young girls that are in a cross-country sport. So what happened was this girl named Jenna Huff was running in a race against another team and she was head to head with her opponent Deb and they were getting at tie. All of a sudden Jenna gets a broken rib and cannot run but Deb helps her win the race by supporting her and telling her that she could do it and Jenna does win the race after all thanks to Deb’s help.
Reflection: My thought about this story was that I was very impressed. Deb had great sportsmanship and a great heart and that really shows that she was a kind girl and was not selfish and didn't care about winning the race. The only thing she cared about was helping her other teammate Jenna win. Deb cared about the girl winning because she had got injured and I think Deb did the right thing on helping her and she is right it doesn't matter if people made fun of her for helping Jenna she just cared about Helping Jenna because Deb knew that was the right thing to do. So this shows us that we should all be great sportsmanship to one another and always choose the right!

Develop Good Studying Habits
In collage, you’ll need to build on the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a collage class are probably more rigorous than those you are used to.
You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle it.
Think of collage as a full-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, abs, study groups and doing homework.
Being organized and using your time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.

Decide When to Study
Work out about many hours you need to study every day. Then make a schedule.
Ø Figure out what block of time you have available throughout the day, in the evening and on weekends.
Ø Consider what time of day you are most alert-there is morning people and night owls-and try to schedule your studying accordingly.
Ø Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for marathon sessions.

“It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company.”
Anon
I strongly agree with this statement because it is very true. Many people decide to choose the wrong because they want to be popular meaning part of the crowd. But what many people don’t know is that when they choose to do that they are choosing the wrong and doing bad things but many don’t see that. So it doesn’t  matter if you’re feeling lonely so what if people don’t want to hang out with you because you decide not to do drugs it’s not their problem what’s important is never doing drugs and knowing that you doing something bad that is the worst doing something when you know it’s bad. So this statement is explaining that it’s okay to be alone it doesn’t hurt anymore it’s better to be alone than being on the streets and being with the bad crowd when you can be at home doing your homework and studying and choosing the right. Always remember that it is better off to be alone than to be with people that are just going to bring harm to you never follow those kind of people be a follower not a leader!

Managing your time well is an important element of success--- especially if you’re a student. If you set priorities that for your needs and lifestyle, you’ll have a better chance of achieving your goals.
Here are some tips for taking control of your time and organizing your life.
Tip 1. Make a To-Do List Every Day.
Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.
Tip 2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely
When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done.
Tip 3. Okay to Say No.
If your friend asks you to go to a movie on a Thursday night and you have an exam the next morning, realize that it’s okay to say no. Keep your short- and long-term priorities in mind.
Tip 4. Find the Right Time.
You’ll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your brain handles math better in the afternoon, don’t wait to do it until late at night.

“Improvement begins with I.”
Anon
I strongly agree with this statement because when you want to improve something in your life you yourself have to do it. Meaning if you want to succeed and better yourself you have to do it on your own because you’re the one that wants this and you have to make yourself happy and care about yourself also. You need to try your best no matter how difficult things get failure is not an option you have to do what is right no matter what people think or say you do it for you and for no one else. So this statement refers a lot to us people to you because if you want to be someone you have to see what you’re doing wrong first and improve yourself because you want this choose the right! Finally, if you want to improve yourself in school for example no one is stopping you but yourself, but if you want to see a change in yourself you have to do the right thing and improve.

3) Heart: Always do what is right so your heart, your conscience, will feel peaceful. When you do wrong, your conscience will prick you and create regretful sensations within your heart. When you do what you honestly feel, you won’t have any regrets. Your heart is your internal compass--- it gives you direction and decremented  Just like a magnetic compass gives directions, even true north, your personal compass, your heart, will point you in the true north, the exact directions and paths you need to trod.
4) Soul: Study scriptures and other sacred literature daily. In other words, feed your spirit because your spirit needs spiritual food just like your physical body needs temporal food to survive. Pondering, meditating, and reflecting are excellent Soul-sharpening activities. Try writing your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, concerns, and decisions in a diary or journal. Writing helps you focus and make good decisions.
Get into the habit of daily improving your body (physical fitness), your mind, your heart, and your soul.

Reflection On The Story of Sarah

  Reflection/Loyalty

My thoughts of this story were that they did such an amazing job working together. I thought it was so nice how they had sportsmanship and were loyal to one another. It touched me to know that there are still kind people in this world willing to help one another. This taught me that even if you are not on the same team for example in a game or a group you should still get along and learn to work together if the other team needs your help. Furthermore, the other girls Liz and Mallory were so generous of helping Sarah who had never gotten a home-run and they helped her. This is just amazing and it shows that you are respectful and you are loyal and kind. These girls showed what sportsmanship is by working together and helping your other teammates  no matter what choose the right!!!

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew them. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self-sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life- body, mind, heart, and soul
1.)       Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.”
2.)            Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “Self-talk.”

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Helen Keller
This statement means that when we work together we can get lots of work done. But when working together we work as a group and get along and get ideas from each other and that helps us because we learn new things from one another. When we work alone it is not that great because you are working by yourself and not have other kinds of ideas from different people. Also, by working together you’ll get the job done faster and it’s good to socialize with others working together makes helps you socialize with people better. So by working together we can do many things but as long as their good things and not bad things we can get the job done faster and when you work together everyone helps out and it is so nice when people are getting along doing their work and choosing the right together!

7 Habits of Highly Successful teens habit 6

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 6
Habit 6: Synergism
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn't have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergism is like learning to from V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn't just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

“So often, in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the “in-group,” we lose sight of things that are far more important.”
Sean Covey
I strongly agree with this statement because it is very true. Many of us just focus on being popular and wanting to fit in but they don’t look at what is more important and that is of just being you and choosing the right. Many teens for example just want to fit in with the cool people and everything they see that is cool they want to do it to. So for instance if the cool people are doing drugs the people that want to fit in want to do drugs too because they might think it’s cool and that way they can become part of the popular kids group. So what this statement is saying that we just forget to pay attention on what really matters in life just to be cool but its you’re success and future that counts not being popular. You should never be a follower instead of being a leader and encouraging people to choose the right and not try to do bad things with the popular kids. Therefore, being popular doesn’t matter you should always go with what your heart says and choose the right!

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 5

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 5
5. Seek First to Understand, and then to be Understood
Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood? This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is:
Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are--- a unique, one-of-a-kind never-to-be-cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they tell you more than you want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Listen with your eyes. Heart and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent). Most people are eager to talk and had rather than listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.
Listen, really listen, for understanding. Seek first to understand then to be understood--- LISTEN.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens Habit 4

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Habit 4
4. Think Win-Win
Teens can learn to foster the belief that is possible to create an atmosphere of Win-Win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them. Win-Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice and tough all at once I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You care about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. It is the belief that there’s plenty of success to go around It’s not you or me. It’s both of us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. There’s more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Win-Win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts. It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win-Win or no deal.

“You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible.”
Ezra T. Benson
I strongly agree with this statement because it is saying that if you choose to choose the wrong you can’t feel good about what you did because you did wrong. So as it says if you feel you did bad it is really impossible to feel good about it after because it just doesn't go. On the other hand, if you do something right you will feel good after I will guarantee that. As a human being we should always do what we know is right even if people don’t like it , it matters what you do at the end. Furthermore, by doing wrong it is not going to make you feel right because it is wrong in the first place  so that is why it is better to just always remain to choosing the right!

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 3

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 3
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Habit three is about Will and Will Not power. This habit helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete the most important things in their lives. Putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s living life according to what matters most. Putting first things first deals with things that are:
Important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrants of time management.
Quadrant 1: Things that are Important and Urgent
Quadrant 2: Things that is important but not urgent
Quadrant 3: Things that are Not Important but are Urgent
Quadrant 4: Things that is not important and not urgent
1.  Important & Urgent
2.  Important but not Urgent
3.  Not Important but are urgent
4.Not Important and not Urgent
Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play. The results for living Quadrant 2 are:
1.  Control of your life
2.  Balance
3.  High Performance
So, in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most important things first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 2

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 2
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
If teens aren't clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the options of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.
“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high---school that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity----which you earned it with perfect honesty.

“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is---‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’ “
Og Mandino
This statement to me means it depends on what you do as a person if it will get you far or not. If you are a person with bad habits and always choosing the wrong you are most likely not going to success in life. But if you are a person with good habits choosing the right you are. There is a difference here because when someone chooses to succeed in life they are not doing bad things they just simply choose to do right because they know that way they are gonna succeed. On the other hand if you are just choosing the wrong all the time that is not going to get you to succeed in life because if one wants to succeed you have to work hard and never do bad things because there is a difference between right and wrong and you should always choose the right!

“Whether I fail or succeed be no man’s doing but my own. I am the force.”
Elaine Maxwell
This statement means that if you fail or succeed it doesn't matter to anyone else only to you. It doesn't mean that you have failed to the whole world it just means that you can try next time harder but for yourself not for someone else. You are the person that always comes first you should make your-self happy before anyone else. Also, it says that you are strong no matter what even if you tend to fail at times you can pick your-self right up again.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 1

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 1
(By Sean Covey but modified)
Habit 1: Be Proactive.
Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that their ball is in their court, that they are captain of their own ship; that they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignment, their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. Choosing to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the law. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be Proactive and take the initiative.

“Keep your eyes on the prize”
Anon
I totally agree with this statement because if you want to achieve something in life you have to work hard for it. If you want to be successful you also have to work hard for it but at the end you’ll receive your prize meaning you’ll have the career you always wanted. Even if it takes a lot of works at first to achieve that goal you can’t give up you have to hold on and keep trying no matter how difficult it gets. It gets difficult but at the end it is all worth it. Furthermore, you always have to keep your eyes on the prize because if you want it you can get it you just have to work hard at first but it is good to work hard because that shows that you are choosing the right and want to pursue your dreams.

“You make your habits and your habits make you.”
--- Anon
To me this statement means that once you get a habit of doing something every day and the same thing you get used to it and it becomes part of you. So what it is saying is once you get to that same habit it just makes you as it says and you get used to that habit. There are many different kinds of habits you’ll get stuck to but if it’s a good habit like for example doing your homework every day that can become a positive habit. But if you have a bad habit for instance doing drugs that is a bad habit and it becomes you and you get used to it and you can’t escape it anymore. Furthermore, that is why you have to be careful in what you do because if it’s something you like doing you’ll be doing it every day but you just have to make sure it’s a good one.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
By Sean Covey
For teens, life is not a playground, it’s a jungle. And, being the parent of a teenager isn’t any walk in the park, either. In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, author Sean Convey attempts to provide “a compass to help teens and their parents navigate the problems they encounter daily.”
How will they deal with peer pressure? Motivation? Success or lack thereof? The life of a teenager is full of tough issues and life-changing decisions. As a parent, you are responsible to help them learn the principles and ethics that will help them to reach their goals and live a successful life.
While it’s all well and good to tell kids how to live their lives, “teens watch what you do more than they listen to what you say,” Covey says. So practice what you preach. Your example can be very influential.
Covey himself has done well by following a parent’s example. His dad, Stephen Covey, wrote the book The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, which sold over 15 million copies. Sean’s a chip off the old block, and no slacker. His own book has rung in a more than respectable 2 million copies sold. Here are his seven habits, and some ideas for helping your teen understand and apply them.
