Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Your future is created by what you do today not tomorrow”
Robert Kiyosaki
I agree with this statement because it is right. What you do right now in your present is what is going to affect your future. So for example, if you are choosing the right today you are creating a great future for yourself and you are going to be successful and happy because from now you are deciding that that is the right thing to do. But if you are not doing well in school and hooked on drugs then your future isn’t going to look bright at all because if you are messing up right now as a teen then no good is going to come in your future. So that is why we should start from now doing good in school, staying drug free, being respectful to your parents because that is what counts is doing something good , being a great person. Furthermore, there is never a day that you give up it’s never too late to start choosing the right because if you really want to be successful and have a great life you need to start doing good things now and I’m  positive that you will have a wonderful future.

It is proven technique to sharpen your skills. In college you’ll be required to do lots of reading. You’ll often have to complete reading assignments in several different books for several different courses at the same time. SQ3R helps make reading and studying purposeful and effective, so that you use your time most efficiently. Here’s how this strategy works.
Survey
Let’s say your assignment is to read one chapter. First, get an idea of what the chapter is about by reviewing the highlights:
·         Read the title, headings and subheadings.
·         Notice words that are italicized or bold.
·         Look at charts, graphs, pictures, maps and other visual material.
·         Read captions.
·         Read the very beginning and end of the chapter.

NEVER
“There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil.”
Ayn Rand
I agree with this stamen because there really is no justification for you to be evil. Evil is just being mean and not caring for one another we shouldn’t choose to be like that because we just learn to hurt others that way and that to me is not right. You should never choose to be evil because you are also harming yourself into becoming a bad person and when someone is a bad person they just end up alone because no one wants to be with them because they are evil. We should learn to have peace within ourselves and learn to love one another not choose to treat each other bad that is not the case. So there is no excuse to being mean to someone we should learn to get along better with one another that is what’s brings us together as people. So if you know something is bad and you decide to do it well then you are choosing to be evil because you know that it is wrong but you still decide to do it. We need to step away from the evil and come together in peace. Because evil brings nothing happy to your life.

Tip 5
Tip 5: Keep a List of Questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading. Write down any questions you have.  Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they've read the texts and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to you, to the teacher, and to others, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than almost anything else.
The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book… and a pen.

“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece. This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better,. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can make up for a lost day.”
John Wooden
I love this quote because John is right if you want to become good at something you have to keep pushing yourself till the end. No giving up no complaining about it just keeps trying until you have finally reached what you want. That is life things don’t just come to your hand like that you have to work hard to achieve that goal. That’s why we set goals for ourselves so we can prove to ourselves that we can do It, it takes hard work and determination to do something but if you really want to achieve that goal. It also takes lots of practice but then you get better at it if you just keep practicing that’s how you get better at things it takes practice that is all. As the quote says only then  you will become better at what you are doing and the results will be great. Just don’t give up. Each one of us has the ability to become what we want only if we practice doing it and not give up.

Tip 3: Do research
Literary critics have written vast numbers of analytical and critical paces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research and see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it. In addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll be also be showing imitative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.
Tip 4: Use a Dictionary
Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t. Rather than simply skipping over the words you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.

“Every time I've done something that doesn’t feel right, it’s ended up not being right.”
Marion Cuomo
I agree because of course when you do something it’s not going to feel right because it’s something wrong. The opposite is when you do something right you feel good because you weren’t choosing the wrong now that is something you can feel happy about. But if you decide to choose stick to doing bad things well it isn’t going to turn out pretty because you are doing something that you know is wrong it is harming you and others as well. Like for example, you’re going to cheat on a test and you know it’s bad what you are doing but you decide to do it anyways and after you feel wrong about what you did because you cheated your way through it well of course because you didn’t choose to follow your heart instead you choose to do wrong and cheat and that isn’t something to be proud of. But if you decide to study your way through it and you will accomplish it if you just study you will get a good grade on the test. So that is why never does something that you are not going to be happy about at the end just stick to being honest and true to yourself and choose the right. Finally, when you choose the wrong there are consequences you will have to deal with so why can’t we just choose the right instead and not get in trouble.

Reading and writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about I tin writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.
Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the text.
Tip 2: Note The Author’s Writing Style
Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols--- or the use of distinct type of sentence structure. Author’s employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

“The Three Don’ts”
·       Don’t whine
·       Don’t Complain
·       Don’t Make Excuses
John Wooden
I agree with John Wooden because many of us tend to do these things but we don’t see the importance of when we don’t whine and complain and make excuses it can lead us to do many great things in our lives. For example, in school many students are always whining and complain that why do we have to do so much work and homework but they don’t know that that is what helps us in the future because success is the key to our future. We shouldn’t complain about these things because that is what is going to help each and one of us in the future the only thing you can do is just move on and stick to what you are doing because later in life you are going to be thankful for going to school and getting lots of practice like homework. You should be happy and just stick to always choosing the right.

3. Set Attainable Goals
If you’re having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.
4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing
5. Acknowledge Your Accomplishments
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, and get a snack. Then move on to the next project.

“The Three Nevers”
-Never Lie
-Never Cheat
-Never Steal
John Wooden
I agree with John because these three things are what are going to make you a great person. By following these three never you are showing that you are a loyal, honest, respectful person. If you do the opposite of these things you are choosing the wrong making bad decisions. Now why would someone want to make bad decisions and get hurt at the end when you can just follow to choose the right and have a great life and not only that but also feel good about yourself. These things will make you happy with your life.  Never let a person bring you down and tell you to harm yourself you shouldn't be harming yourself you have to love yourself and feel good about yourself and one thing that can help you is just by following these three rules I guarantee you it’s the right thing to do. Just by going the right path you will succeed and be happy with your life. If you do the wrong thing you will just end up getting caught at the end.

5 Tips for Staying Motivated Tips 1-2

5 Tips for Staying Motivated
Tips 1-2
http:/www.collegeboard.co m/student/plan/boost-your-skills/8454.html
To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.
1.     Focus on High-Impact  Activates
The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.
2.    Create new Challenge
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you.ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve don’t in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history of another biography.

Student Success Statement - Robert E. Lee

Student Success Statement
“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience.”
Robert E. Lee
I agree with this stamen because that is your only choice in this world doing what is right because when  you choose the right it brings you happiness, and many positive things in your life. There is no point in choosing the wrong for what if you are just hurting yourself there is no good in choosing the wrong it just brings you pain. So as it says always do what is right because you will enjoy doing what is tight you will feel good and also proud of yourself. When you decide to stick to choosing the right it will become easier because you will learn that choosing the right is better for you and you will learn that choosing the wrong is not going to bring you any good. It really isn’t difficult top choose the right it isn’t at all because what you are doing is good so don’t think it’s hard and you will make your life easier for you. It will make a change in yourself a good one.

Take Control Of Homework Part 3!!!

Take Control of Homework
So it doesn’t Control
Part 3
Take advantage of Any Free Time
If you have study period or a long bus outside ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are essay to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages,. You can even have separate ringed stacks for each project. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER, PUT IT ON A CARD
Study with a Friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you may have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate Your Achievements
Reward yourself for hitting millstones or doing something well.

Student Success Statement - David Crokett

Student Success Statement
“Be sure your always right then go ahead”
Davy Crockett
To me this statement means that first you have to make a choice whether or not you want to do what is right or do what is wrong.  You have to make sure what you are doing is right and that way you can do whatever you’re going to do but make sure it’s choosing the right and you will also feel good about yourself for choosing the right and have a peaceful conscience. It’s important to think about what you want to do because after if you decide to pick a decision but decide to choose the wrong and you want to fix it well there is no going back to it because you can’t fix something that you did wrong well maybe you can but it’s not going to be the same. So when you know you have made the right decision then you can proceed with what you want to do but always remember it’s better to just stick to the right.

Take Control Of Homework Part 2

Take Control of Homework
So It Doesn’t Control You
Part 2
Keep Things in Perspective
Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and use your time accordingly. Don’t waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important things first is being wise and smart.
Get More Involved
Keep your mind from wandering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with others or relating your homework to something you’re studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engaged in your studies and you will have a great experience. Demonstrate a good attitude toward home assignments; you will begin to love doing it.
Organize the Information
People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw pictures or charts to digest information, others prefer to read out loud or make detailed outlines. Try to find the methods that work for you. Ask your teacher for recommendations if you’re having trouble.

Student Success Statement
“Character is higher than intellect.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
This statement means that what matters is how you are as a person either if you have a really bad attitude and you are selfish and mean well you don’t have really good character. The thing that is important is having great character. You can be intelligent and still have a mice pure heart but some people just take advantage knowing that they are high in intellect and they just become mean and rude and think they are better than everyone else. But they are wrong that does not matter what matters is having character being kind to one another helping  each other out that is what counts.

Take Control of Homework Part 1

Take Control of Homwork
So It Doesn’t Control You
Part 1
Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:
·         Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.
·         Build study habits that are essential in college.
·         Prepare for your classes
·         Get a sense of progress.
Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively
Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home try your school or local library.
 Know where to Begin
Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t have to face them at the end.
Study at the Same Time Every Day
Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

Student Success Statement
“I think it is better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur the reproach of our consciences and posterity.”
Robert E. lee
This statement means that when you do something good you feel good. But if you plan on choosing the wrong you are not going to be proud of what you’ve done and you shouldn’t feel proud because what you did was wrong. So when you do wrong it stays with you forever because you just think of that one time that you messed up and it follows you everywhere and that feeling you get when you remember you did something wrong well it will stay bothering you until you decide to ask for forgiveness and you regret doing what you did deep down.  So if you suffer its ok because you know it won’t be for long because you decided to stick to choosing the right!

Note-Taking Strategies Part 4

Note-Taking Strategies
Part 4
For Review
Once you’ve done all of the above, you’ll find you’ve created your own personalized study guide. Cover the main section of the page and use the key words and questions in the left margin a quiz.
Stick to It
Review your notes the day you take them and all your notes once a week. That way, you don’t need to study as much when it’s test time. You’ve been doing the work all along.
Try out the Cornell system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your classmates how they take notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking good notes requires practice, like any other skill. And the more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll be to take notes in college.

“He listens well who takes notes.”
Dante Alighieri
This statement means that when you are paying attention to the lesson and you really want to achieve your goals and want to succeed of course you are going to take lots of notes. Someone who really wants to learn something and is proud of going to school is more likely to take notes of something. So when you pay attention you take notes because you are listening to what they are saying and at the same time. So that is why you should always choose the right because you want to learn something and want to succeed so always remain in school and you will get far.

Note-Taking Strategies Part 2

                                         Note-Taking Strategies

During Class

One approach that has been proven effective is called the Cornell Not-Taking System. Here are some of its methods.

Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:

1. Get the speaker’s main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.

2. Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.

3. Organize as you write. Pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis.

4. Indicate main and supporting points as you go.

5. Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.

6. Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

                              CHOOSE THE RIGHT!
